2011

Mr. Vess and Dick Semedjian represented the City of San Diego in a case against two major construction firms arising from cleanup efforts following the 2007 San Diego Wildfires. The case resulted in $900,000 in recoveries. [>See more].

2007

Mr. Vess represented a rival of American Express Co. in a trademark infringement lawsuit claiming the finance giant fraudulently won a mark that devastated the plaintiff's once-thriving company. The case was settled on a confidential basis. [>See more].

2006

Mr. Vess's lawsuit against Callan Associates, the San Francisco-based pension consulting firm, resulted in a $4.5 million recovery in favor of Mr. Vess's client. [>See more].

Mr. Vess's lawsuit against two accounting firms that provided services to the San Diego City Employee Retirement System resulted in a $1.65 million recovery in favor of Mr. Vess's client. [>See more].

2005

Mr. Vess argued successfully before the California Court of Appeal to preserve a previous judgment after jury trial, resulting in a $5.9 million recovery

Mr. Vess represented two women accused of receiving fraudulent transfers valued in excess of $2 million from a San Bernardino public official. The case was favorably settled after the jury was selected, with the women paying no more than simple interest for the assets they received. [>See more].

2004

Mr. Vess obtained a judgment against a man who had just been voted "La Jolla's leading architect" and whose work had been featured in a national magazine.
Mr. Vess' investigation resulted in a large, confidential settlement. The man was convicted of a felony. [>See more].

2003

Mr. Vess and Mark Mazzarella tried the successful suit against one of the world’s largest engineering firms, securing a $7.7 million jury verdict. [>See more].

Mr. Vess obtained a $1.5 million settlement with the City of San Diego
before the complaint was even served. The City settled because the client’s case was thoroughly prepared before the case was filed. [>See more].

Mr. Vess argued successfully for a writ of mandate preventing the City
of San Diego from relocating and consolidating all of its homeless services into one facility. The case was won because it was shown that the City did not follow the rules. [>See more].

Mr. Vess was the litigator on the team that successfully opposed the Padres'
plan to commercially develop the "Park at the Park", culminating in the City's repurchase of that property to maintain the Park permanently. The Padres
had earlier threatened to sue the client, but, in the end, the client,
